Correcting Our Kids
“Train up a child in the way he should go…” Prov. 22:6
While I was the Pastor of a Gulf Coast church in the sixties, we had a large (and noisy) group of youth in regular attendance. Our Deacon Chairman advised me to “put my foot down on them.” “You need to get tough with those brats!”, he raved. “And if my boy ever acts up, just let me know!!”
Everyone knew that his son was a ring-tailed-tooter but no one wanted to tell the father. When I finally did, he exploded, “How dare you blame my son!” “You’re just picking on him!”
Many parents won’t correct their children and don’t want anyone else correcting them. By the looks of things nowadays, it’s obvious that this has caused some serious problems in our society. Consequently, both the parents and the children are losing... and so are we!
